Op. graduated from Trabzon High School in 2000. Dr. Sema Ertan Birsel completed her medical education by graduating from Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of English Medicine in 2006.

In 2006, when he started his specialty training, Dr. started working as a pediatric assistant at Istanbul Zeynep Kamil Women's and Children's Diseases Training and Research Hospital. Ertan then completed his specialty training at Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology.

Adding an international dimension to his career, Dr. Birsel gained international experience by participating in the fellowship program in the pediatric orthopedics and gait analysis departments at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, USA-Delaware, between 2012 and 2013.

On his return to Turkey, he took on important duties in the field of pediatric orthopedics and trauma surgery at Şanlıurfa Ceylanpınar State Hospital and Atlas University Medicine Hospital. He continued his career by working at the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey, Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital.

As of September 2023, Exp. Dr. Sema Ertan Birsel works at Ortopediatric Children's Orthopedics Academy. His main areas of interest include pediatric orthopedics and trauma surgery, gait analysis, orthotics and prosthesis.
